GHRP-6, a peptide with sequence H(d-W)AW(d-F)K-NH2, is a ghrelin receptor agonist, which has previously been reported to increase gastric emptying in normal rats. A study investigated the prokinetic effect of GHRP-6 in a mouse model of diabetes mellitus have shown that GHRP-6 can accelerate delayed gastric emptying (GE) and intestinal transit (IT), but has no effect on colonic transit (CT) in diabetic mice, which implied that GHRP-6 may exert its prokinetic effects via the cholinergic pathway in the enteric nervous system, and therefore, may have therapeutic potential for diabetic patients with delayed upper gastrointestinal transit.
GHRP-6 is a potent stimulator of natural release. GHRP-6 is a Hexa-peptide that promotes food intake by stimulating hunger and helps increase energy metabolism.
